Buttons, Buttons Buttons. I seem to be surrounded by buttons. Around Easter we bought the entire contents of a tailor's workshop - a job lot sold as seen on the lovely ebay.
It was a good buy - 7 estate car loads! A good bulk purchase for a small fashion label - we got 3 machines, patterns, fabric, zips, thread and lots and lots of buttons - i'll never have to buy stuff again! What we didn't realise is that at some point in the tailor's shop history it was run as a haberdashery shop and all these buttons had been left unused since the mid 70's!
It's taken months to sort through everything, i've managed to work out what i can make use of -designed jumpsuits with exposed zips to show off the lovely dyed cotton tapes and metal teeth (something of a rarity in these days of plastic).

I've picked through the buttons, sorting nice bright ones into jars of the same colour, given some away, started selling them in the shop and yet still I have a ridiculous amount. Its just not possible for one person to use this many buttons so i've decided to return them from whence they came...it's back on ebay!
I've split them up into different lots so its taken me about 3 hours to list 6 lots. I hate ebay! It always seems to take forever, loading, loading, crashing, going back into them 'cause you forgot to add something. Well lets see if its worth it. I just hope that someone out there can use them - this is a typical fashion womble thing - i hate throwing anything away that someone may find useful. So if you want buttons......
I was lucky enough to be 'passed down' my nana and mothers button tin. Also, the old lady nextdoor very kindly gave me her button collection a number of months ago, some of which were her grandmothers making them about 90 years old! I do love buttons :D x
