Black has always been the mainstay of any fashionista's wardrobe. If you go to any of the big fashion shows its always a big sea of black. Blame Dior and Chanel - black has been fashionable for longer but they made it seem effortlessly chic.
Of course punk did whole new things to black and this season its definately drawing on the punk look. Distressing and rips, layers and holes, textures, dying sequins and shimmer. This seasons black is anything but boring.
Today I'm wearing all black - short boots, lace tights, short skirt, black and silver printed wolf top, shirt with silver stripe, sequin waiscoat, leather jacket and mohair cardie. Yes it is a lot of layers - but l'm sat on the market stall and its freezing (layers are good for me for Saturdays - outside cold, inside in the shop very hot!) So layers are practical and I like the fact you can wear 3 outfits in one day - wearing all black means at least it all goes!
Growing up a rock chick, I'm quite at home in black but if you like a bit of colour in your life mix in lavenders, greys and soft pinks, textures like suede, leather and lace are all welcome new additions to any wardrobe but don't underestimate the appeal of a soft drape jersey or overwashed sweatshirt. It's all about contrasts - new with old, plain with print and different textures. Have fun and mix it up!
