I want these.
I grew up in Docs and had many wild adventures in them. I remember getting my first pair when I was 13. I felt like I'd made a statement about who I was - an arty rebellious type who wasn't afraid of anything. I remember it was quite a big thing - my boyfriend at the time even broke up with me over it, saying I looked like a 'bloody student'.
They certainly were worn by many students - the grunge look was flowery dresses, stripy tights and boots and you had to be a bit 'out there' to wear it. I bought into the whole thing. I liked the fact it distanced me from the nice girls who went around looking ladylike and prim in their pencil skirts and blouses, or the 'townies' with their sportswear and trainers. I didn't belong with them.
I belonged with the rebels, the back of the bus kids, the bottom of the school field gang smoking in corners and sticking two fingers up to the establishment.
I wore my docs with pride, hiding them under my floor length school skirt whilst the other girls wore skirts as short as belts.
Docs have had a bit of facelift - more modern pointy shape, girly floral prints but they still appeal to the rebellious youth. The question is am I too old to get away with them?
I too revisited my doc years last summer, Ange! I purchased myself a gorgeous pair of distressed cherry 8 holers and I adore them! I even went so far as to get rainbow laces and decorate the toes with stick on flowers and ladybirds! I usually save them for festival wear as they are so adorned with crazyness. I'd love another 'every day' pair, the ones you've pictured are lush! Xx
