Photoshopping

It's like I've had a double life this week. Sewing or working in the shop by day, photoshopping by night. Firstly we did the photoshoot I blogged last week, most of the shots needed 'tweaking' a few I created better looks by added filters, and I few I even 'swopped heads' to combine the great shots of each model into one photograph.

I used to work in a photography studio, so I find this stuff quite easy but I'm like any
one using photoshop really - I just muddle my way through, trying
different things until something looks right!

As well as the photoshoot, Gordon's taken photographs of all the new season clothes for the website. We had much debate about what style of photograph best illustrates the clothes and how they fit, how they are shaped and how to style them. There's no perfect solution - we decided we need 3 shots per garment.

Photograph 1 - A flat 'product shot"

Photograph 2 - A simple 'modelled shot'
(hoodie instead of sweatshirt but you get the idea)

Photograph 3 - A styled 'artistic shot'

Obviously this is a lot of work but it means anyone buying online has a real idea of what they're going to recieve in the post. Trouble is, no matter how we photograph we can never get a clear flat product shot -

They start out like the one on the left but I have to edit them to create the second one!

So I was quite pleased with the new version of Photoshop - it's created a new tool - the quick selection tool. It makes it a lot easier to select the item you want to retain so you can delete the background you don't want.

It still doesn't stop me from staying up till 1am, but it means I don't have to do it as many nights - Happy Days!

  1. Tom likes to photoshop stuff, fiddly but lots of fun. I think the three shots is a great idea; lots of work but you're more likely to get a sale from someone who can really see the item. Xx
